The Juries
The Venice Film Festival gives out numerous awards each year such as the "Golden Lion", the "Volpi Cup", the "Grand Jury Award ? Golden Lion", the "Special Award for Direction ? Golden Lion", and the "San Marco Award". Another acknowledgement given during the festival is the "Marcello Mastroianni Award" for first-time actors and actresses which rivals, in a sense, the "Volpi Cup".
Until 1996, Jury members served over successive years. Now juries are created for each new edition of the festival.
The jury’s most important task is to assign the highest award, the Golden Lion for Best Film, while other top awards, such as the Career Golden Lion are decided collectively by members of the juries under the direction of the Venice Biennial.
